The plot of ground is located in between two rivers surrounded by breathtaking countryside and with the view of a cathedral, Ventana mountain range and a canyon with a stream and rank vegetation. All together it offers spectacular views from any part of the house. There is a very warming juxtaposition of materials in use – in the private zone wood is used and in the socializing zone concrete.

With its surface of 3700 square meters it houses a main gallery of 500 square meters taking advantage of natural lighting coming from roof skylights and a room with a mysterious name „Blackbox“ of 200 square meters that is lightened only by aritificial light, contrastingly with the main gallery. Topography of the build-up area is expressed in the layout of the two-storey building. Both floors are connected by a number of outside halls furnished by sculptural pieces.

Wandering through inner court of the museum a visitor can always discover something new. As an alternative, museum galleries are accessible by a series of closed halls. One of the most original element is the facade made from corten in warm tones of orange, red and brown. Entire outside covering looks very dynamic, assembled from a series of circles creating the building`s spine what accentuates its horizontal line.

At the “fingertips” openings were created that illuminate the dramatically curved interior walls. The museum’s dish-like roof channels rainwater through the central atrium of the building creating a 35-meter water drop into a small pool. The rainwater is then recycled for use in the building’s restrooms.
Casa S sits comfortably, like it grew from the ground and is complemented by the Ventana mountains on the background. The house is composed of several boxes stacked together, though it doesn’t look boxy at all.

From Alric Galindez Architects:

The house is a result of several stone boxes piled up on the side of a sloping area. Each one of these cases points and frames an outstanding view, where we can find Catedral, Otto, and Ventana mountains, as main characters of the landscape seen from inside.

The space is organized so that it can be divided in different zones, depending on the number of persons that are actually using the place. During most of the year, the house can be used by areas, smaller homes inside the big house for single couple trips or for groups of friends in leisure plans, or even both of them happening at the same time. These variety of layouts transform the inside life of the house, growing, changing, adapting, evolving.

We used local stones to keep a coherent language with the harsh and wonderful surrounding, trying to create the idea that the house was always there, just as another rock or an unnoticed natural feature. Snow seasons reinforce the idea. A white vast dominating view, only a few mountain peaks appear in dark contrast, and the house always there.

The social area is placed on the access level, dominating the best views captured by white calm boxes from inside, opposing to the overwhelming exterior. The master bedroom, and the guests room share this level too, each facing a different mountain, in this surprising kaleidoscope of sights.

As an extension of the deck, a sinuous wooden stair guides us to the last box, resting a few steps below. A sightseeing Jacuzzi offers the best sunset views of lake Gutierrez, and below the wooden deck, a warm gym and a sauna complete this relax an inspiring lookout, in an ideal mood, slightly above the Patagonian valley.

tissellistudioarchitetti have sent us another great residential building they completed. More photos and info after the jump.

From tissellistudioarchitetti:

The project counted the realization of a building to residential destination inside a lot not built and not reached by public services like roads, illumination, sewerages, etc…
There is an area of considerable dimensions to manage; inside this area it has been necessary to organize, laying down
the Public Administration, the whole public works system that would have been then a service to the building: the access road to the building races along two sides of the quadrangular perimeter of the lot, conducting the cars to the area predisposed to open parking lot, and an ample green zone faces the residences. Everything is also in the service of a building with parking lot at the basement and that it develops out on three levels on earth: eight apartments fairly divided in the first two floors and only one apartment with garret of pertinence.
Beyond a mere functional description of the intervention, action focus is still the wish to reinstate the architectural quality to the directional vertexes of the building intervention, refusing the homologation to the reassuring and anonymous morphology of the surrounding buildings.

The classical and consolidate residential functions can be found in a “box” which does not refuse the archetype of the
parallelepiped volume, but even in the tension of the planning search it “lives” and rotates along a parallel axle to the
ground almost lifting from earth the look of its more representative face.
Cleanliness and compactness of the prospects are the aims always pursued and happily reached through the use of a
simple and direct language, particularly evident in the formulation of the principal prospects: ample balconies extend
themselves along the front whole length, but an single graphic sign coordinates the complexity of the system-prospect of the openings, synthesizing the single elements in an unique dominant motive, in the identification profile of the whole
architectural body.

Resembling the 360 house by Subarquitectura, The Scissors house is located on an island close to Korea.

From BCHO Architects:

Located ob the southern slope of Jeju island, the Scissors House pivots up a previously existing tangerine farm overlooking the pacific ocean. The volcanic island, Jeju, is approximately 100 kilometers south of the Korean peninsula. Known for its tropical landscape and strong winds. Warm summer breezes blow up from the pacific over the entire face of Halla mountain, the islands central volcano. The Scissors House is oriented to take advantage of these natural conditions while maintaining much of the existing topography.

The slope of the site is terraced with 2 to 3 meter basalt stone retaining walls. The house scissors between one tier and another, stepping up and pivoting around the low basalt stone wall. A small stone and moss garden faces the entry and steps up to the main living space which overlooks a courtyard, with a persimmon tree, towards the pacific ocean. Sliding doors along the main living and eating space can open the entire house to the ocean for much of the year.

The continuous roof remains low and monolithic to allow the singular form protection from the strong winds moving over the house. The roof is a single slab of concrete without any waterproofing or parapet which might easily be damaged in a typhoon strength wind. During the pouring and curing process, the roof was re-troweled every 2-3 hours throughout the night to allow any existing moisture to rise and form an 8-10 millimeter thick cement seal which will prevent future cracks and is completely water tight.

There are some old, but still beautiful churches around the world, that aren’t cared for and will soon fall victim to the elements. A family in North Ireland have converted an old church in to a single family house, destroying very little of the facade feel and saving the architecture for future generations to see.

The Charcoal House’s facade is deceiving looking from the outside, it even hides how many floors the house has.

From Atelier rzlbd:

Charcoal House, situated in Pape and Danforth neighborhood in Toronto, Ontario, is deceivingly presenting a raucous box. The randomly patterned square windows on its façade and the hidden entrance door at the corner of the building are elements that not only make it difficult to associate the building with a single family house, but they also trick the eye to an extend where the scale of the house is distorted and one might not be able to guess the number of floors inside. Although the monolithic façade, the black brick cladding, states an asperous architecture, the airy spaces within the black box reveals the true identity of its functional spaces. The house as the architect describes, resembles a “coconut” which is dark and hard on the outside, white and delicious on the inside.

While it’s successful attempts to minimize physical connection to the front street creates a bizarre solitude for the building-such as the front door, which is carefully hidden inside an exterior corridor and melts into the façade around the corner of the building- this wood-framed single-family house of about 2,100 square feet (195 square meters) suddenly transforms into a dynamic living space with a careful attention to openings and natural lights in each room, and once again deceives one’s immediate impression of disengagement from the outside by creating unexpected and glorious openings to the outside.

The Charcoal House sits on a small lot with a narrow plan. It is not a spacious house to live in, but an avant-garde mind that seeks an alternative living space is perhaps looking for a change in effects. A modern house is about a modern living style, and the Charcoal House is an attempt to provide that chance for Torontonians.
